What to expect
A Gas Safe registered engineer will check the boiler and system, tell you what's wrong and whether it's worth repairing. If a new boiler makes more sense, they should explain why and give you the options, not just the dearest one.
Repairs are usually 1 to 3 hours. A powerflush is a day. A like-for-like boiler swap is usually 1 to 2 days.

Is it worth repairing an old boiler?
Often, yes, if parts are available and it's a one-off. If it's over 12 to 15 years old and breaking down regularly, a replacement may work out cheaper over time.
What's a powerflush?
It's a deep clean of the pipes and radiators that clears out sludge. It helps when radiators are cold at the bottom or the system is sluggish.
Does the engineer need to be Gas Safe registered?
Yes. By law, anyone working on gas appliances must be on the Gas Safe Register. You can check their card on the Gas Safe website.
